Visual signature vs digital signature for PDFs
A visible signature mark and a certified digital signature solve different problems. This guide explains the distinction before you send a signed PDF to a school, client, employer, government office, or counterparty.
Visual signature
A visual signature is a mark placed on the page: typed name, drawn signature, initials, image, or stamp. It helps a human see intent, but it does not by itself prove identity, prevent later edits, or create a cryptographic audit trail.
Digital signature
A digital signature uses cryptographic certificate technology and may include signer identity, timestamp, document integrity validation, and audit information. Recipients can sometimes verify whether the file changed after signing.
